Overview
The armed conflict started in New England and eventually spread throughout the 13 colonies. However, the most significant battles regarding the number of soldiers engaged occurred in the north. Also, the Continental Congress attempted its only invasion outside the 13 colonies to capture Canada from the British. Gradually, the war shifted to the southern colonies during the last four years of the war.
